Twelve Steps

Something earth-shaking happened to the religious landscape in the middle of the 20th century. A group of desperate alcoholics discovered a power to regain their sobriety through principles rooted in the gospel. But in order to make this power available to as many fellow sufferers as possible, the founders decided to distance their movement from organized religion entirely and Christianity in particular. Anyone willing to surrender to a higher power as they understood such a power could benefit, they felt. These twelve steps capture something essential in the Jesus path and apply to all of us. They are no doubt a key ingredient in the emerging church's understanding of the Jesus path.
