Stephen Ministry

What is Stephen Ministry?

Each of us has times of significant challenge in our lives when we need extra comfort and support - times when someone like a Stephen Minister might be really helpful.

A Stephen Minister is a church member who has received extensive training in compassionate, empathetic listening. He or she will meet with a carefully matched person in need (men with men, women with women) for an hour a week, for several weeks or months, as the need indicates.

The Stephen Minister is prepared to listen in a sensitive, non-judgmental way. S/he may pray and share scripture with the person. Mostly, the Stephen Minister will be there dependably. Confidentiality will be maintained at all times.

Stephen Ministry is for those who are…

· hospitalized
· in a job crisis
· experiencing a disability
· separated or divorced
· terminally ill
· seriously or chronically ill
· aging and elderly
· lonely or discouraged
· in a spiritual crisis
· unplanned pregnancy
